Can I get pregnant with spotting?
I'm 32. I've always had a 35-day cycle with no spotting. I became pregnant with my 2.5 yo in the first month.
Nine months ago, after a stressful summer, my cycles suddenly shortened to 28/29 days, with 2-4 days of spotting immediately before AF. And I also started having 10 days of pretty intense breast soreness. (Had a week of mild soreness prior.)
Do you have any thoughts on this? Is there anything I can take to restore my cycle? Or at least stop the spotting?
I'm about to start charting to see if I ovulate. I used OPKs for a week last month & never got a +.
Do you know if women can get pregnant with spotting?
Is this a sign of low progesterone?Answer:
Spotting before the menstrual cycle may indicate that the corpus luteum is breaking down too early due to poor progesterone productions or high estrogen levels that drop suddenly causing premature shedding of the uterine lining. It is important to support the endocrine system in maintaining perfect balance between estrogen and progesterone.
Herbal remedies like vitex are effective in helping the body produce progesterone and re-establish regular ovulation cycles. This herb is in many preparation formulas for fertility like FertilAid
I would recommend seeing your doctor, just to make sure your hormonal levels are normal. Spotting before periods and shortening of the menstrual cycle in women over 30may indicate hormonal imbalance due to estrogen fluctuations and low progesterone. There are other possible reasons for spotting like endometriosis and pelvic infections. Your doctor will be able to make a proper assessment on your specific case.
If low progesterone is the cause, you may find that you are not ovulating regularly at this time.
To properly monitor your cycle, I would recommend using Ovacue
instead of OPK.
OPKs are not accurate in women with irregularities and do not confirm ovulation.
Ovacue is a great investment because it is very accurate in measuring the electrolytes in your saliva that correlates to your estrogen levels.
To confirm ovulation you need to use the vaginal sensor
in addition to the oral sensor. This determines when your cycle chances from estrogen to progesterone at ovulation, thus confirming ovulation. Ovacue helps you monitor your monthly cycle more closely while trying to get pregnant, telling you if your luteal phase is long enough.
The problem of spotting while trying to conceive is that your luteal phase may be too short. The length of the luteal phase is the number of days from ovulation until your period comes. It should be at least 10 days long without spotting. This time is required for implantation. A short luteal phase puts you at risk of miscarriage. During the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle the hormone progesterone is in charge. If estrogen levels are high, the ration between estrogen and progesterone becomes compromised.
To solve this issue, Vitex
can help. It supports the conpus luteum during the luteal phase and also helps increase its length by stimulating adequate progesterone levels.
