DHEA and Herbs for High FSH

by Gloria
(Bronx, NY)

Hello, I am 39 years old and have a very high FSH level. Upon further examination the conclusion is that I am experiencing ovarian failure. My Reproductive Endocronologist recommended I take the supplement called DHEA in hopes that this can stimulate my ovaries to release some eggs. They have had some older patients that have taken DHEA and as a result, their ovaries behaved younger.

I had started taking Vitex, Maca & Evening Primrose back in June. My question is: Do you know if it's good to take these with the DHEA? Also, do you know of any women with high FSH that have conceived while taking DHEA?

DHEA Versus Natural Progesterone
by: Maria Gioia Atzori

Vitex is known to help decrease high levels of FSH associated with PCOS and poor ovulatory cycles and to promote and restore regular ovulation. It is better not to take DHEA with Vitex as they are not complementary in their action. Vitex and other herbs restore hormonal balance by supporting the endocrine system to do its job, DHEA is a form of hormonal replacement therapy.

DHEA is a precursor to many hormones within the body and it is needed both by men and women. The body uses DHEA to make the hormones needed. The problem with DHEA, is that it can convert the wrong hormones, depending on your level of imbalance. In fact, it can cause the body to produce more androgens like testosterone and estrogens leading to a greater hormonal problem. When using DHEA your doctor needs to be very diligent is monitoring your hormone levels to make sure your body is doing what it needs to do with it.
Synthetic DHEA is not true DHEA, but rather a chemically altered steroid drug. This can lead to side effects. You should talk to your doctor about this.

In my opinion what a woman with poor ovarian reserve needs is natural progesterone.
Instead using DHEA it is best to use topical applications of natural progesterone cream. This is safer and possible more effective.
When progesterone levels are healthy, DHEA levels are also healthy. Therefore, natural progesterone is a key factor in the production and maintenance of healthy, natural DHEA. Vitex can be taken up until ovulation, while progesterone cream can be applied topically after ovulation to support implantation, and pregnancy. In fact natural progesterone can and should be continued during the first trimester in women with hormonal imbalance.

If you want to overcome poor ovarian reserve and increase the quality of your eggs naturally, I strongly recommend learning more about PCOS Fertility Kit. This kit contains all natural supplements designed to increase healthy hormonal balance, a healthy uterine lining, and promoting regular ovulation.

Fertility Blessings!

Hi, I have just been reading this blog and concerned that i have been taking lots of supplements that may work against each other e.g. vitex and dhea.

Is anybody there available to have a look at my list of supplements who can advise on which may be having a counteractive effect on fertility?

I have it all saved to Word and can post or email it.
