When Should I Take Vitex?

by Jen

I'm ttc and wondering when I should take the vitex during the cycle...everyday or just after my period?

Answer :

Hi Jen,

If Vitex can be taken every day of the monthly cycle after the periods, until the next period arrives.

Please, understand that Vitex is a slow actin herb and that regular use for 3-4 months may be necessary before seeing results on your menstrual cycle and in your fertility.

It is indicated in poor ovulatory cycles, short luteal phase, irregular menses and high prolactin levels cases and PCOS.

Vitex is also well tolerated and can be taken for long periods of time (up to 18 months or longer).

Vitex is sold as a single herb or in combination with other herbs as part of a fertility formula.

It is best to take it on an empty stomach and with water.

If you are taking Vitex capsules, the recommended dose is 300mg 2-3 times a day.

If you are taking Vitex tincture preparation, the recommended dose is 1/2 teaspoon 2 to 3 times daily in water or juice.

If you are taking any prescription medication, consult with your doctor before taking herbal remedies. Vitex is contraindicated in conjunction with fertility drugs and hormonal therapy.

I hope this helps you,

Fertility Blessings!
