Hi, I went for my appointment with my doctor yesterday and he said that I have a cyst of 6cms in the pouch of Douglas. According to him, it is not an endometriosis cyst nor its dangerous. It is just filled with liquid. I am really worried and want to have your advise if the cyst can be dangerous or how I got a cyst in the pouch of Douglas. I have just ordered castor oil pack and fertility massage DVD. Will the castor oil therapy works on any type of cysts?
Answer: Don't worry, you doctor is monitoring your situation and if he is not concerned you shouldn't either. There are very important differences between a functional cyst and an endometriotic cyst.
Functional cysts are basically follicular or corpus luteal cysts that may occasionally form during a woman reproductive life. They are often asymptomatic and only diagnosed during a routine ultrasound. They are always benign and most likely to disappear on their own after a number of cycles.
They are fluid filled and are commonly treated with contraceptive pill to suppress ovarian activity in order to allow the healing of the cyst and prevent the formation of more. The routine management of functional cysts is to simply monitoring them to make sure they do not increase in size. Sometimes it is necessary to aspirate them to analyze the liquid.
Endometriotic cysts are also called chocolate cysts. This
type of cysts develop on the ovary and a dense and appear dark in colour due to the presence of blood. They often cause ovarian pain and heavy bleeding during menses.
The Pouch of Douglas is located in the peritoneum between the back all of the uterus and the rectum. It is possible for a functional ovarian cyst to intrude in this area.
Functional cysts can become very large and rupture causing in most cases a sudden onset of very severe ovarian pain, followed by a heavy menstrual blood loss. Liquid may still be seen by ultrasound in the pouch of Douglas after rupture, but eventually it will disappear.
Natural Treatment Of Ovarian CystsThe natural health management of this type of cysts is different than conventional medicine and it involves ovarian suppression with natural progesterone therapy from day 8 to day 28 of the menstrual cycle for 2-3 cycles, castor oil therapy, enzymatic therapy, fertility massage and herbal remedies.
Castor Oil TherapyDoing castor oil therapy will help for both endometrial and functional cysts.
Ovarian cyst formation is related to excess estrogen in the body: estrogen dominance with progesterone deficiency. Also, liver and bowel toxicity and body exposure to xenoestrogens may be contributing factors.
A natural treatment for ovarian cyst formation helps the body breakdown excess estrogen reducing cyst size, and eventually completely eliminate the cyst.
