Can homeopathy help with secondary amenorrhea? My period stopped at 27.
My endocrinologist told me that I have central hypogonadism due to lack of the following hormones:
Using a contraceptive pill to have a menstrual cycle causes me huge side effects although it helps me as well in the matter of osteoporosis that has arise.
I am 33 now and I have stopped the pills and trying to find out some alternative solutions to my problem.
I would appreciate your advice,
Secondary amenorrhea linked to hypogondaism can be caused autoimmunity, viral infections, radiation, chemotherapy, pituitary adenoma, and hypothalamic disorders.
Emotional causes related to secondary amenorrhea and hypogonadism are fasting, weight loss, anorexia nervosa, bulimia, excessive exercise, emotional trauma, sudden shock, death of a loved one, etc.
It is very important to talk to your doctor to assess the possible cause of your amenorrhea. Often, women who suddenly missed their periods do so as a result of emotional trauma. These cases can very easily be treated homeopathically and prognosis is always good.
I would recommend consulting with a qualified naturopath or homeopath near you that will help you work on your case.
Female hypogonadism happens when the ovaries produce little or no hormones. There are two types of hypogonadism primary and central. In primary hypogonadism, the ovaries or testes themselves do not function properly. This type is really difficult to treat naturally and homeopathy may have little effect.
In central hypogonadism, the centers in the brain that control the gonads, the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland do not function properly. In cases of secondary amenorrhea, the pituitary gland ceases to produce FSH, LH.
Estradiol is necessary to produce the eggs in the ovary. During the menstrual cycle, estradiol produced by the growing follicle triggers, via a positive feedback mechanism, the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, which causes the LH surge at mid cycle stimulating the ovary to release the egg.
As a result of hormonal imbalance, ovulation does not occur and the menses are suppressed. Taking synthetic hormones does not provide a cure, just supplies the body with hormones.
With homeopathic medicine is possible to stimulate the pituitary gland to produce FSH and LH, which will then stimulate the ovaries to produce estrogen and progesterone during the monthly cycle. Not
all cases are successful and it will require some time for the treatment to be effective.
Homeopathic treatment needs to be tailored to your specific case. If you have secondary amenorrhea, your body should be able to reach balance once again. The homeopath will consider all the possible mental, emotional and physical causes that could have trigger this to happen in your specific case. Other important aspect that should not be overlooked are your complete medical history and your constitution.
In homeopathy, there are different possible approaches: classical homeopathy or organ therapy homeopathy. Some homeopaths may consider using both approaches. In classical homeopathy, the entire case at the mental, emotional and physical symptoms is taken into consideration when prescribing a remedy. One remedy at a time is prescribed and time is given for the healing response to be elicited within the body. Regular follow-appointments of 4-6 weeks should be scheduled to monitor progress.
In organ therapy homeopathy, the homeopath may chose to administer in very minute doses the missing hormone or organ tissue. For example Pituitrin 3X can be given to stimulate the menses. Other remedies may be taken at different times during the menstrual cycle to support each phase of hormonal production. These remedies are: Hypophysinum on day 1, Folliculinum on day 8 Ovarinum on day 15, and Luteinum on day 22.
Besides homeopathy, herbal medicine and acupuncture can also be very helpful in re-establish regular ovulation cycles. Acupuncture has the ability to balance the energetic pathways, called meridians, that if blocked may impair the free flow of energy causing imbalance.
Some women with secondary amenorrhea have also good success with herbal remedies. For example herbal formulas that contain Vitex agnus castus
may be helpful in helping establish regular ovulation patterns. Vitex has the ability to stimulate the pituitary gland to produce LH hormone, which stimulates the ovaries in producing progesterone. The LH surge during the middle of the monthly cycle triggers ovation. Vitex has been studied extensively in Germany and used to treat secondary amenorrhea with positive results. This remedy should be taken for a period of minimum of three months up to nine months. Vitex is safe and can be taken even for longer periods of time under medical supervision.
I hope this answers your question,
